Moving

I'm excited as we've been offered a housing association bungalow. Popped over to see it on Friday and we couldn't believe how spacious it is for a one bedroomed place. It's in a lovely village with a good range of facilities and two pubs - can't be bad!!  Best bit though,
is that we can take our lovely Rosie,  as dogs are allowed.

The garden is a good size, not  like this big field we have here, but glad about that. Too high maintenance for us now.

Will miss our lovely neighbours Sue & Mike but we'll keep in touch I'm sure.

Can't wait to move in now.

WINTER SONG

WINTER SONG.

All the leaves have fallen,
Trees lay bare, in a silent, still beauty
Snow starts to fall,
gently coating the branches in pure white lace
Sombre sky. so grey, with promise of more,
No sun to cheer the day.
Suddenly a breeze swirls,
rustling ghostly cobwebs from the barren branches
An eerie sight, as snow quickly blankets the earth below
A single robin perches on high, singing his winter song.

He cheers the day.
In his inimitable way.

Sunday Ramblings.

It doesn't seem possible that it's almost May and practically half way through the year. Time seems to pass very quickly as one gets older, no idea why this is, though I suppose it could be down to the faster pace of everyday living.

I've been watching the London Marathon this am and pleased to see Paula Radcliffe finishing well. Her little girl was quite tearful and no doubt very proud of her famous mum.

I'm proud of Paula too, especially as she comes from Bedford, as do one or two other talented athletes and famous people such as the late, great Ronnie Barker, John Le Mesurier and Trevor Huddlestone, not forgetting John Bunyan of course.

I must say I've never read Bunyan's "The Pilgrim's Progress"  as I'm not at all religious.  I do have a Holy Bible though, which my paternal Grannie gave me in 1957 and treasure it, but only because it was a present from her.

I don't believe you have to believe in any God to be a decent person, but everyone is entitled to have their faith and I would always defend that right, but not the evil that comes from extremist fanaticism in any religion, which encourages intolerance and death to non believers or people of different faiths..

I'd better get of my soapbox now....

Have a good day all.

British TV Repeats

As much as I liked "Only Fools and Horses" the endless repeats of it on various channels can get a bit monotonous.

I wish they would repeat some of the other comedy programmes such as "Perfect World" with Paul Kaye. I used to find this hilarious, although it was a bit "near the mark" at times, but no more shocking than "Little Britain" and other irreverent programmes that have since followed.

I expect some of the old comedy sketches are not PC nowadays, such as "The Benny Hill Show", Dick Emery, etc and will never be shown in full ever again, but I must admit I loved them all and much more fun than some of the totally unfunny comedians of today!   .

I would also like to see repeats of "Big Deal" starring Ray Brooks which was aired in the 1980s. It would be great if they could also repeat some of the excellent plays and drama series of yesteryear too.

I can but dream....

TV Critic.

I'm a bit of an aggressive, amateur TV critic, as I do tend to watch it pretty frequently.

I wondered if any of you have been watching the series on BBC 2 "Back in time for Dinner?"

Last week it was about the 70s and the family seemed to be living on Cadbury's Smash and a load of processed foods much of the time.

I had a young family in those days and I can't remember us ever having Cadbury's Smash to replace real spuds, plus we never had a fondue set either and I didn't know anyone who did. Mind you I did work nights at the time, so was probably walking round in a fog of exhaustion for most of that decade!

However I do remember the Vesta curries which tasted far better then than they do now with much bigger portions too.

My point is, that I think the programmers have stereotyped the decades somewhat. We didn't all have gaudy orange wallpaper with clashing patterned carpets. Still I expect they have to portray a general picture of what life was like in those days.

I do remember Mr Benn on children's TV with Ray Brooks narrating. I could listen to his melodic, soothing tones all day!

Fond memories.

DAFFODIL. (An Acrostic poem)

Daffodils, sweet scented daffodils
A beautiful, spectacular sight
Flowering in the breeze
For our sheer delight
On rockery or border
Diminutive or tall
I adore the pretty trumpets
Love the splendour of them all.

Wednesday Ramblings.

12 15pm

Well, they say snow is on its way in our region and indeed it is very cold with a bitter wind, plus it is expected to get much colder and rougher this evening.  Funny how a bit of snow or inclement weather causes such a focus for conversation. I wonder if people who live in permanently sunny climes discuss the weather constantly as we Brits tend to?  Perhaps they moan about the constant heat.  Still, our weather can't be that intolerable, as everyone wants to come and live here, apparently!!

I have updated my self-published poetry/story booklets on LULU and sent for a couple of copies of each to make sure they are fit for purpose. There are links on there to get help at each stage of the publishing, but I can never make head nor tail of what they're trying to tell me, so not terribly helpful -  oh well!    Hopefully there are not too many spelling/ grammatical mistakes.   Anyway, they are now available for sale on Lulu, via the link on my profile, My Web Page. if anyone wants to have a look.

I went to visit my Granddaughter Kim last Saturday and new baby Amiya. She is absolutely gorgeous and I was thrilled to hold her and give her a cuddle. She was asleep most of the time and so far seems a very laid-back baby, though I'm sure all that will change.  Her two big brothers are very taken with her too and will be protective of her, as she grows, though she may turn out to be a right bossy boots!

I just love tiny babies, pity they turn into sulky teens one day!

Friday Ramblings

I've been busy on Lulu, updating my self-published poems/stories, deleting some and adding a few others. I wish I could make them more professional looking, but not up to that degree of technology.  The good thing is that it's free to publish and you only pay for the books you order at a discounted price, excluding postage.

It's too expensive to get Lulu to do them for you, but I might one day decide to go for it, if I come into a few bob or two.  I enjoy writing limericks, so will definitely publish a small book of them; will need to write a few more first though, as they are quite short, a lot are required to fill a book.

There is a link to my Lulu Author Spotlight page on the Contact column in my profile if you click on My Web Page, if anyone is interested.

Other news is of course, the birth of my latest Gt Granddaughter Amiya, born 7th of January. I'm going to see her tomorrow, can't wait!
Needless to say I will be armed with some new baby clothes, etc.  Much more choice available now at reasonable prices, unlike in my day, when it was very limited.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!
